The Hungarian Orienteering Federation (MTFSz) was one of the founding members of the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) in 1961, and has given the sport great athletes such as the first non-scandinavian world champion in 1972, Sarolta Monspart who was later elected one of the 12 most recognised athletes in Hungary, or the double world champion from 1991 and 1995, Katalin Oláh. The goals of the Hungarian Orienteering Federation are to continuously host high-level orienteering competitions in Hungary. In foot orienteering since 2016, European Youth Orienteering Championships (EYOC), Junior World Orienteering Championships (JWOC), World University Orienteering Championships (WUOC) and World Masters Orienteering Championships (WMOC) have been organised in Hungary, with the European Orienteering Championships in August 2024 as the most recent highlight. The process is ongoing, as Hungary will host the World Trail Orienteering Championships in 2025 and WOC in 2027. International events in their home country provide a great motivation for our competitors.
